Janson Equipment was founded by Edwin Janson, a farmer in the village of Reese. At the start of World War II, Ed established the business by trading horses for tractors with steel wheels, due to the rubber shortage. He also sold many IH refrigerators and freezers when the appliance line was launched as many farmers had just got electricity.
Ed’s two sons, Bill and Howard, purchased the company from their father. They notably sold the first Case IH Axial-Flow combine in Michigan in 1976 to a local farmer in Fairgrove. This same farm also purchased the first Steiger tractor in Michigan from Janson Equipment, too.
Howard’s son Tom and Bill’s son Steve purchased the business. They added two additional locations in 2001 – the former B&W co-op in Breckenridge and Charlotte, MI. For over 20 years now, these two locations have embraced and embodied what Janson Equipment strives for as a dealership. Janson Equipment is the largest Case IH dealer in the state of Michigan with 3 locations.
Tom continues to lead Janson Equipment with customer-centric policies and procedures that yield proven results. Parts availability, fast service response time, trained and professional personnel, and offering best-in-class product lines are at the forefront of Janson Equipment’s operations. Tom works side by side with his son Adam as his VP/CEO. He will partner with his sister, Sarah (Janson) Bierlein, to become 4th generation owners of Janson Equipment Company. In the time of transition, where innovation and tradition intersect, is where you’ll find Janson Equipment keeping steadfast in their belief that the customer experience is number one in forging the next chapter of the company.
